October 16 (Fri) – December 13 (Sun), 2026
A special exhibition, The Samurai Armor of the Matsue Domain, is being held at Matsue History Museum from October 16 to December 13, 2026.
Samurai who once served the Matsudaira family of the Matsue Domain wore matching identifying marks on their armor, known as inome (boar's-eye motif).
The boar's spirit of always moving forward and never retreating is thought to have served as an emblem of the samurai's determination as they went into battle.
This exhibition brings together armor passed down through the families of the lord of the Matsue Domain and Matsue Domain samurai, as well as armor donated by the Matsue Domain to shrines and temples throughout its territory.
A variety of related events will also take place during the exhibition period, including a samurai armor try-on experience.
On Sunday, November 15, international visitors will have the opportunity to try on samurai armor at Matsue History Museum.
Places are limited, so advance registration is required. Please use the pre-registration QR code on the event flyer.
We look forward to welcoming you to Matsue History Museum!
